Rolex Fastnet Race 2017


The Rolex Fastnet Race is one of the largest yacht races in the world. The 608 nm race is the highlight of the sailing calendar and is one of the most demanding offshore races.

Now is your chance to complete in this world famous race on a Challenge 72 Ocean going racing yacht that will be skippered by Danny Watson who has twice circumnavigated on the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.

The CatZero package includes two training weekends:

Weekend 1 - 27th-30th April 2017

The weekend includes two optional qualifications which cost £125 + VAT for both.

Thursday 27th April - Optional one day Personal Sea Survival training with the practical taking place in Immingham pool in the morning run by East Anglian Sea School with the classroom based element at The Hub in Grimsby in the afternoon.

This is followed by an optional one day ISAF Offshore Safety training course on Friday 28th April 2017 on board CatZero.  This will conclude around 16:00.

All particpants will then board CatZero for the evening in readiness for the sailing weekend ahead. We will cover all aspects from living aboard, sail trim, headsail changes, reefing, helming, watch systems.

Weekend 2 - 25th-29th May 2017

This will involve participating in the Vuurschepan Race which is part of the North Sea Regatta. Participants will join CatZero in Hull on the evening of Thursday 25th May before sailing across to Scheveningen, holland.  The 180NM race commences on the morning of Saturday 27th May, arriving in Harwich later that same day.  After the race the boat will return to Hull Marina, arriving Monday 29th May 2017.


The package also includes:

  • The Vuurschepen Race entry fees (part of the North Sea regatta);
  • The Rolex Fastnet Race entry fees;
  • Liability Insurance including racing while on board
    (Additional insurance e.g. holiday insurance is optional but is not included);
  • All meals on board during the training weekends and the event;
  • Use of sailing gear and safety equipment;
  • A CatZero polo shirt; and
  • Further sailing opportunities to deliver the boat to Gunwharf and / or return it back to Hull.

We recommend that all crewmembers complete borth the Personal Sea Survival course on 27th April in Grimsby and ISAF course on 28th April in Hull. These are both one day courses at a cost of £125 + VAT for both.

For the Rolex Fastnet Race, crew members will join CatZero on Thursday 3rd August 2017 at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth before sailing across to Cowes Yacht Haven ready for 4-5 days of racing, which commences on Sunday 6th August 2017.
