As our CatZero supporters will know, our Director of Sailing Danny Watson is about to embark on the running challenge of a lifetime – 30 marathons in 30 days, consecutively!
With headline sponsors Linbrooke Services on board, along with a whole host of other key sponsors and supporters, Danny will set off on his epic run from Brighton on April 16, running more than 800 miles, to reach John o’ Groats in May. Over the weeks ahead, we will be following his training in a series of blogs, which we start today with the reason why he is taking on this epic feat of endurance…
So here we are… six years in the making all leading up to the final challenge… 30 marathons in 30 days – consecutively! The CatZero 30in30.
It’s been quite the journey getting here with marathons, cycle events (coast to coast and John o’ Groats to Land’s End), a Humber Swim, an Ironman Triathlon and an Ultramarathon, all with the intention of getting me ready for my final challenge.
Leaving Brighton on April 16th, 2020, the route will take me through Greenwich, then Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. I will run through Grimsby and then Hull on the April 23rd and 24th. Then it’s York, Durham, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Inverness before finally making it to John o ’Groats on May 15th.
For my final event I will be raising money to underwrite CatZero’s innovative and life-changing Full Families programmes.
Working with vulnerable families has affected me personally, especially as I now have a family and I have used the principles we have developed in CatZero in changing my own life. I am passionate about the work we do with children, young people, and their families creating lasting change and I am willing to put myself on the line to raise further funds to help families improve their lives.
With more than 60 families in the East Marsh area of Grimsby now being supported by CatZero in a joint programme with CPO, we are looking to expand the Full Families programme in Hull, Grimsby, the East Riding and Scunthorpe.
My personal target is to raise £10,000. However, my overall target via corporate support and other runners joining me each day is to raise £72,000.
