“I just have to keep putting one foot in front of the other.”
A very simplistic way of ensuring he conquers his massive 30in30 challenge, but for Danny Watson that’s one of the thoughts running through his mind as he begins his epic adventure today.
Danny set off from Brighton this morning on the first marathon leg of his 800-plus mile journey up the country. He will be running 30 marathons in 30 days – hoping to hit a personal fundraising target of £30k.
With headline sponsorship from Linbrooke Services and further support from Beal Homes, Adams and Green, ARCO, Clipper Ventures PLC, Harris Lacey Swain, Hodson Architects, Horncastle Group, Informed Financial Planning, Marr, Pipers Crisps, the Sewell Group and W A Horncastle Charitable Trust, all the money raised by Danny will go to the Full Families programmes in Hull and Grimsby. It is the final of seven annual challenges undertaken by our Director of Sailing and was always his goal.
But, just hours before his 30in30 started, how was Danny feeling: “I can’t quite believe that I’m on the verge of this final challenge,” he said.
“Eight years ago I wrote my seven challenges down on a piece of paper and it was all building up to this, it’s amazing that I have managed to keep doing them, to keep pushing the limits.”
In undertaking the challenges and building up to his 30in30, Danny likens what he has done to the efforts that the CatZero participants need to make to effect positive lasting change in their lives.
“It’s all about taking that first step and then challenging yourself to carry on and see what you can achieve to fulfill your full potential. And all the time you are taking one day at a time and breaking things down into achievable chunks,” he said.
“For me this challenge is about putting one foot in front of the other and repeat, repeat, repeat. As long as I’m doing that I will be moving in the right direction,” explained Danny.
Danny’s run from Brighton today will take him through Sussex and up into Surrey before running up to London, into Cambridgeshire and up to Lincolnshire. He will hit Grimsby on October 1 before running up into Hull the following day and continuing his journey north.
