COMMEMORATING the special connections between Grimsby, The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, Billingsgate Fish Market and Iceland, two unique exhibitions have gone on display at Grimsby’s Fishing Heritage Centre.
‘Fish ‘n’ Quips’ explores the events of the First and Second Cod Wars while ‘Sea to Sale’ showcases a replica of the 750-year-old Royal Charter, given to the Fishmongers’ Company in 1272. The charter was handed to CatZero in London and brought to Grimsby by the organisation. It now hangs in the Muriel Barker Gallery at Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, next to a copy of Her Majesty The Queen’s first official portrait. The original hangs in Fishmongers’ Hall, in the capital, while only two copies were made to commemorate the recent Platinum Jubilee, one of which can now be seen in Grimsby.
CatZero representatives were in attendance to support the local event and the Fishmongers’ Company, which has hosted several trips to London and young CatZero programme participants learning about the seafood sector.
The Worshipful the Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire, Stephen Beasant, was in attendance, along with the Icelandic Ambassador, Sturla Sigurjónsson, and embassy representatives.
