Pipers Crisps is setting its employees a ‘30of30’ charity challenge to support the mighty efforts of Danny Watson as he runs 30 marathons in 30 days.
Tomorrow (Wednesday, September 23), our Director of Sailing at will set off from Brighton to run more than 800 miles – taking in at least a marathon every day, to finish in John O’Groats on Thursday October 22.
In doing so he ends seven years of fund-raising challenges, and in 2020 has a personal target of £30,000 – all of which will go to our Full Families programmes. Currently running on Grimsby’s East Marsh estate, in partnership with CPO, and in Hull, the programmes offer long-term support to families reaching or in crisis – enabling them to effect positive, lasting change.
A long-term supporter of CatZero, Pipers Crisps was delighted to become an official sponsor of Danny’s 30in30 and set about inviting its teams to devise their own ‘30of30’ challenges to help hit the fund-raising target – hoping to get to £1,000.
Assistant Brand Manager, Rachel Wilkins, explained: “We want as many people as possible to get involved. They can run, bike, swim, bake 30 buns for the community, play 30 games of pool or even come up with their own unique challenges. The possibilities are endless, and the Pipers Team are ready and raring to go, to support such a great cause.”
Stressing the importance of supporting charities like CatZero, Rachel added: “As we all know, this year had been unlike any other with the covid-19 global pandemic. As we all adjust in getting back to ‘normal’ life the CatZero team continues to support those who need us most.
“The Pipers team has supported CatZero over the years and would like this year, which has been harder than many, to be the best yet.”
All the money raised personally by Danny and the Pipers team, along with support from other sponsors, will go directly to the programmes.
After training for months and one postponement due to lockdown, Danny’s mammoth challenge will take him from Brighton running north and into Grimsby and North East Lincolnshire on October 1. He will cross the Humber Bridge to Hull the following day before continuing his journey north.
With a support crew of just three and living in a campervan to avoid physical contact, there is provision for a last-minute change of route in case of further coronavirus restrictions across the UK.
Thanking Pipers for the support, Danny said: “Without such long-term support from organisations such as this, the 30in30 would not be happening. But more than that, it ensures CatZero can continue to help those in most need across our region and for that everyone here is ever-grateful.”
